Herman Lloyd Newman passed away from this life on July 26, 2024, at the age of 79, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Herman was born on August 2, 1944, in Leslie, Arkansas, the son of Fred and Eva Leona (Fox) Newman. Herman grew up and attended school in Leslie, Arkansas, where he graduated high school. Following high school, Herman joined the United States Army in 1961 and served 7 years, 5 months until he was honorably discharged. The family moved to Sperry, Oklahoma, before moving to Terlton, Oklahoma, in 1977. Herman then joined the United States Army Reserve where he served for 16 years and 10 months. Herman also served the Oklahoma National Guard for 4 years and 9 months until he finally retired from service in 2001. 

 
When he retired, Herman was awarded the Meritorious Service Metal by the 45th Infantry Brigade, the 7th Infantry Division and the United States Army. The Adjutant General Cortright stated “SFC Newman has consistently set the standard for all non-commissioned officers to follow. He is the last of a breed and his service should serve as an example for future NCO’s to follow. His actions have been selfless and reflect great credit upon himself, the 45th Infantry Brigade, the 7th Infantry Division and the United States Army.”.
 

The survivors are his wife of 56 years, Jacanette of the home; two daughters, Angelic Armstrong and husband Larry of Skiatook, Oklahoma; Crystal Olivia and her husband Michael of Terlton, Oklahoma: three siblings Audry Faye Fox of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Annie Mae Anderson of Oldfield, Missouri, Willie Newman of Oologah, Oklahoma: grandchildren TJ Flager, Tony Olivia, Jacob Ent, Robert Ent, Riley Armstrong, Reese Armstrong: great grandchildren Paisley Flager, Jasper Flager, Lawson Ent, Eris Ent, Logan Olivia and a host of other relatives and friends.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Eva Newman, and siblings Bill Newman, Hobart Newman, Ray Newman, Alfred Newman, Burl Newman, Pearl Newman, and Sherman Newman.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Terlton First Baptist Church.

Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in the Hanna Cemetery. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will handle the arrangements.
