Alice Mangold Williams © Muskogee Phoenix 10/16/2008 - 10/18/2008 Submitted by: Jo Aguirre
Alice Mangold, along with twin brother Jacob, was born June 14, 1922 in Durham, Ok. She attended High School in Durham and played on the girl's varsity basketball team. After graduation Alice attended Southeastern Teacher's College in Weatherford Ok where she met John Williams. They later married on February 14th, 1942 in OKC where they lived. Later that year John was drafted and Alice lived with her mother in Durham. Their first child was Henry Lloyd Williams born Dec. 24, 1942 while John was serving his country in WWII. After John's return Alice gave birth to a daughter, Kathy Gwen Williams on Aug. 8th 1946. Alice and John lived in OKC until retiring in 1986, when they moved to Checotah, which is their current address.
Preceding Alice in death are her sisters, Johnny Estes and Bonnie McKean, and a brother, Temple Mangold.
Alice is survived by her husband, brother, son, daughter, and five grandsons.
Alice loved to be outdoors in her garden or taking care of her sheltie dogs. Alice worked hard growing up during the depression, at Tinker AFB during WWII, and after the war, taking care of her family. More recently, Alice was occupied with her garden, her dogs, and the management of the ranch. Alice was an example for all and will be deeply missed.
She passed away suddenly on Oct. 13, 2008 from heart failure.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 17, 2008 at Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Wayne Loftin, Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Committal Prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with Christopher James Williams, Edward John Williams, Robert C. Williams, Shawn K. Lopez, Jeremy J.
