Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, January 18, 2006
at Smith Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverends Marcus Alexander,
Doyle Davis and Don McKinney.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery
under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Checotah.
Mr. Smith was born Nov. 26, 1920 in Boynton to Joe and Ella (Slapes) Smith. He was a WWII U.S. Army Disabled Veteran, receiving a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star and was a rural mail carrier. He married Edith Braxton and after her death in 1981, he married Jessie M. Hanson, she also preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters; Joyce Howdeshell & her husband, Don of Oktaha, and Loyce Dugan and her husband James of Prattville, AL, one sister; Deane Henson of Clanton, MO & one daughter-in-law; Glenda Hanson, nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Billy J. Smith in 1992, one son; Earl Hanson and one daughter; Barbara Smith.
Casketbearers for the services will be Ryan Fletcher, Donnie Howdeshell,
Tim Allen, Larry Stonebarger, Tom Morrison, Tommy Hanson & Joe
Buckmaster. Honorary Casketbearers will be Fred Truster, Max Hayes,
Marvin Bloss & Jerry Chestain.
