Steve Helton, native of Checotah, went to be with his Lord and Savior, and his brother, Terry, on April 17, 2011, with his devoted wife, Arlene, and son, Travis, at his bedside in Dallas, TX, after a long and excruciating illness.  Steve was born to Wofford Edd Helton and Rosalee Crenshaw Helton on May 30, 1956, in Merced, CA.

Steve attended school in Checotah and Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee.

Steve married the love of his life; Arlene Dominick of Council Hill, on July 2, 1976.They had one son Travis, born on October 31, 1980 in Muskogee.

Steve is survived by his wife of 34 years, Arlene of the home; his son Travis of Arlington, TX; father Edd Helton and stepmother Thelma of Checotah; mother, Rosalee Crenshaw Hix and stepfather Richard of Muskogee; as well as many loving relatives and innumerable friends. Steve's brother, Terry Helton, preceded him in death in October of 2000.

Steve centered his life around God and his family. He loved anything that had a motor in it, and could repair almost anything. He was an expert at operating any kind of heavy equipment, and worked his way up to become an excavation supervisor for large contracting firms in the Dallas area where he was loved and admired by his employers and hundreds of employees.

Steve became a Christian at an early age and was baptized at the First Assembly of God in Checotah.

The Helton family will receive visitors at Hampton Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

Funeral services for Steve will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011, at the First Assembly of God, in Checotah, with Pastor Paul Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery with Mark Leonard, Marko Gutierrez, Moi Osorio, Tonkawa Woodard, Billy Miller and Larry Todd serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Franklin and Danny Ray Campbell.

Services are entrusted to Hampton Mortuary of Checotah. Friends may share condolences with the family at www.hamptonmortuary.com.
