Paul Harwell, of Council Hill, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2010, in
Eufaula at the age of 87. Paul was born in Wetumka, OK, August 10, 1923, to
Alford and Carrie (Duck) Harwell.
Paul attended school in Wetumka and at the age of 15, he joined the US Army and
served for six years before being honorably discharged. Paul worked as a cement
engineer for Halliburton for many years. His work took him and his family many
foreign countries and all together they had been around the world 11 times.
After retiring from Halliburton, Paul moved to the Lake Eufaula area where he
enjoyed the lake life. He worked at the old Checotah Wal-Mart in the sporting
goods department where he had loyal customers that would check out there just to
visit with him. Paul enjoyed traveling and was a great teller of stories about
his travels and life. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal (Buckridge) Harwell;
one brother, Neal Harwell; and six sisters, Alpha Kelly, Roberta Lewis, Helen
Morris, Ruby Keeton, Ada Jones, and Renise Higgenbottom.
He is survived by his two daughters, Gayle Cooley of Muskogee, and Traci Duke
and her husband Randy of Council Hill; four grandchildren, Tonya Turner, Cheri
Catron, Travis Duke, and Jayci Duke; five great grandchildren; Brentton Catron,
Theron Catron, Kristina Catron, Cole Turner, and Cameron Turner; a special
family friend, Ulala Hobbs; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of
friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday, November 5, 2010, at Hampton Memorial
Chapel in Checotah with Pastor Larry Montgomery officiating. Interment will
follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with Travis Duke, Brentton Catron, Jason Turner,
Pat Patricca, Tommy Stewart, and Jason Catron. Honorary pallbearers are Theron
Catron and Cameron Turner.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation to
Heartland Hospice at 210 E. Comanche, McAlester, OK 74501.
Services were entrusted to Hampton Mortuary. Friends may share condolences with
