Nelson Williams, age 77 of Purcell, passed away Thursday August 15, 2013, at his home. Nelson Enloe Williams was born February 15, 1936 in Criner, OK. He was one of thirteen children born to Lee Owen Williams and Julia Fern (Hardage) Williams. Nelson grew up near Criner and attended Criner and Dibble schools. At a young age, he moved to Houston, TX and attended a trade school for brick masonry. He returned to Oklahoma and married his best friend and first love, Barbara Fae Wright on August 1, 1955. They were married in Purcell and continued living in the Purcell where together they raised two daughters, Vickie and Karan. Nelson worked as a brick mason for many years. He spent countless hours bricking many area schools and other projects. For the last 29 years Nelson and Barbara have owned and operated Woody’s Chapel Quick Stop west of Purcell. Nelson loved people and was always quick to lend a helping hand. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #406 in Washington. A 32nd Degree Mason, he was very proud to have served more than 50 years. Nelson loved training race horses and never missed an opportunity to go to the races. He was a loving husband, father, brother and a good friend. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by: His daughter; Karan Williams, His parents; Lee and Julia Williams, Sisters; Sybil and Mona Jean Williams, Wanda Finch, Ida Lou Carr and Adele Graham, 2 brothers; Herman and Calvin Williams,
Nelson leaves behind: His wife; Barbara of the home, His daughter; Vickie Williams of Purcell, Brother; Doug Williams and wife Laura of Purcell, Sisters; Merle Argemuenti of Houston, TX, Velma Busby of Gainesville, TX, Zelma Penton of Houston, TX and Sue Bayless of Purcell, Many nieces and nephews, and a host of longtime Woody Chapel friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Burial will follow at the Washington Cemetery
