Alvera P. Walker, age 93, of Purcell, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014 in Springdale, AR. Alvera Phaye Marti was born April 13, 1921 in Purcell, OK, the 7th of 8 children born to Chris C. Marti and Maggie May (Johnston) Marti. She was raised in Washington and attended Washington Schools, graduating in 1939. She married O.B. Walker on June 16, 1941 in Oklahoma City. They made their home there for a few years, before settling in Lexington. Alvera worked as a secretary at OG&E in Purcell and the United Way in Oklahoma City. She later settled in Purcell to take care of her aging sister, Alma Marti. Alvera was a proud Chickasaw and stayed very involved in their various activities and functions. She fondly recalled that her mother was an original Chickasaw enrollee in 1902 under the Dawes Commission. Alvera loved the Lord, and served faithfully as a member of the First Baptist Church in Purcell.
She was preceded in death by: Her husband, O.B. Walker; Her parents, Chris and Maggie Marti; Her siblings, Alma Marti, Artie Dunn, Curtis Marti, Lavena Hood, Evelyn Steward, Ola Mae Glass and Doris Roberts and Her niece, Marti Hunnicutt.
Alvera leaves behind: Her nieces and nephews, Lee Shahan of Norman; Carolyn Mask and husband Connie of Sanger, TX, Ruth Billingsley and husband Bob of Garfield, AR, Brooke Learmonth and husband Scott of Coeur D’Alene, ID and Sydney Roberts of Atlanta, GA, Chris Steward and wife Linda of Almont, CO, Kevin Roberts and wife Shawna of Belmont, OH, And a host of other family and friends.
Graveside Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 5, 2014,
at the Washington Cemetery.
