Ora Sterling, age 62 of Lexington, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Ora Marie Jay was born August 8, 1958 in Lawton, OK, the 4th of 6 children born to James Easter Jay and Elizabeth Jean (Lansdale) Jay. She spent her early years in the Fletcher and Lawton area, later settling in Purcell where she attended school. Ora married young to Jimmy Browning, and to this union, four children were born. Ora worked in health care as a nurse’s aide for many years. She then worked for more than 10 years at the Oklahoma Tax Commission as a tax preparer, before health reasons required her to retire. A very determined Ora returned to school, graduating from Cosmetology school, before heart problems disabled her permanently. She later married Gary Sterling, and they made their home in Lexington. Ora was a faithful member of the Lighthouse Worship Center in Purcell, and she enjoyed serving any way she could, but especially helping in the kitchen and cooking for church events. She cherished her family and especially her grandchildren, and playing around on her smart phone. She was a wonderful wife and mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a good friend. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: daughter, Misty Browning and son, Jimmy Browning Jr.; Her parents, James and Jean Jay and two sisters, Robin Rose and Jamie Rebelez.
Ora is survived by: her husband, Gary of the home; Two daughters, Crystal Browning and husband Tom Utterback of Midwest City and Wendy Joslin of Okla. City; Three sisters, Winnie Mae Bjork and husband Charles of Lexington, Gale McCarrell and husband Rick of Purcell and Joy Adams of Poteau, OK; 6 grandchildren, Brittany, Jace, Zackary, Courtney, Angel and Christopher; 2 great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Raelynn and another coming soon, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 22, 2021, at Little’s Chapel in Purcell. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery. Send online condolences @ www.wilsonlittle.com.
