Nadine Phillips age 84 of Newcastle, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Grace Living Center in Norman.
She was born November 12, 1929 in Blanchard, Oklahoma. She was the middle daughter of three born to Omer White and Annabel (Talley) White. Nadine grew up mainly in the Blanchard community and attended the Blanchard Schools. At the age of 17, she married the love of her life, Harry Phillips a young farm boy from Newcastle. They were married on November 30, 1946 and to this union they had one daughter, Lauri. Nadine worked tirelessly as a homemaker and mother and as a farmer’s wife. For a short 18 months she worked for John Roberts Ring Factory in Norman before Harry made her quit to help him on the farm. For nearly 50 years she helped Harry run the family farm in Newcastle where they raised cotton, wheat, hay and soy beans. During those years she was actively involved in the McClain Co. and the Newcastle Home Extension Clubs. She was a fabulous seamstress and cook and enjoyed making clothes for her daughter and sister. She was well known for her fried chicken dinners and her homemade fried pies. For over 45 years, Nadine was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Newcastle and for nearly 30 years she taught Sunday School and participated in Vacation Bible School. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling and even more-so in her later years. Other things that she enjoyed doing were reading and collecting bird figurines. During the years that her daughter Lauri was growing up she proudly supported her in all of her school activities. She and Harry never missed any of Lauri’s basketball games. Even years later after Lauri was a school teacher, they came to her school dramas and plays. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother and mother-in-law. She will also be remembered as a special sister, as a loving aunt to her many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Her smile will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
