Ruth Berniece McPherson went to Heaven on December 24, 2016 at the Age of 88.
She was born on
April 14, 1928 in Washington, OK. She Graduated Washington High School in
1945. On December 3, 1949, she married Edwin Leon McPherson also of
Washington. They moved to Norman in 1958 where Berniece continued to work as a
homemaker. She worked at Oklahoma Memorial Union with Jo Looney and also
Central Junior High. Berniece later worked at Star Pharmacy and then at
Anthony’s for over 18 years. Berniece and Leon were long-time members of
Immanuel Baptist Church. Berniece was an accomplished seamstress and quilter;
she especially loved to make baby blankets. She was also well known for her
coconut pies and homemade rolls. Leon and Berniece were avid square dancers
with the Thunderbirds and Silver Spurs; she also made all her dresses and vests.
She was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Myrtle Andrews, her husband
Leon, her brother Kenneth, her sisters Ruby Payne and Morene Parks, and sister
in-law Jewel Andrews.
She is survived by her two daughters Susan and Sandra of
Norman and many nieces, nephews and her best cat friend Mitzi.
Family wishes to express their gratitude to the Meals On Wheels and Good
Shepherd Hospice for Their Special Care.
Visitation will be 12:00p.m. – 8:00p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at
Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2016 at
Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow at Washington Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org/donate.
