Funeral services
for Anna Frank Gowens, age 89, of Norman, will be held at 10:00 am Friday, March
23, 2012 in The Chapel of the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in
Norman with Rusty Tugman, Bob Usry, and Reverend Bruce Ingram officiating.
The family will greet friends from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Thursday, March 22,
2012 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Anna Frank was born in the Johnson Community, Oklahoma on January 5, 1923, the
daughter of Cecil and Minnie E. (Phillips) Cleveland. During the birth of Anna
Frank, Minnie passed away, leaving Anna's raising to her father, Cecil and her
aunt, Lillie Farmer. Lillie would become known as “Anna's Auntie” being the
only mother Anna would ever know and who raised her to adulthood.
She spent her youth in Purcell, Oklahoma, graduating from Purcell High School in
1941. Later that same year, Anna moved to Norman. She was united in marriage
to Mr. RC Gowens on September 2, 1941 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
Anna spent more than 58 years as an Avon Representative before retiring in
2007.
Anna was a selfless person, giving tirelessly of herself to brighten the day for
others. Whether it was a hot meal, bouquet of flowers, or just a good visit,
Anna was always concerned for other people.
She was an awesome wife, mother, and grandmother and for years hosted her entire
family for a homemade hot meal every Thursday evening. She also enjoyed
gardening and working in her yard.
Anna's faith was strong and she and her husband, RC, where active members of the
Alameda Church of Christ of Norman for more than 71 years. RC preceded Anna in
death on her 85th birthday, January 5, 2008.
In addition to her birth mother and her husband, Anna was preceded in death by
her parents, one grandson, Jackie Gowens, and her “Auntie”, Lillie Farmer.
She is survived by her two sons; Bob Gowens and his wife, Elsie, of Norman;
Tommy Gowens and his wife, Judy, of Norman; five grandchildren; Rob Gowens of
Norman, Chad Gowens and his wife, Kim of Noble, Tammie Gowens of Norman, Jason
Gowens and his wife, Brandy of Norman, and Jared Gowens and his wife, Katie of
Norman; 11 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Lifecare Hospice and The
Rivermont Staff for their loving care of Anna.
Burial will conclude in the Washington
Cemetery in Washington, Oklahoma.
Arrangements for Anna and her family were placed in the care of the Vice
Family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
