Funeral services for Iva Jo Dowdy, 75, of Purcell were held Sept. 15, 2003 at Praise Cathedral with the Rev. Tod Williams and the Rev. Scotty Haynes officiating. Interment was at Washington cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mrs. Dowdy died Sept. 11, 2003 at Purcell Municipal Hospital.
She was born Sept. 13, 1927 in Washington, the daughter of Robert Rains and Vera Mullins Rains. She was reared and attended school in Washington.
On Dec. 21, 1946 she married Willie Howard Dowdy in Wellington, Kan. they lived on a farm in the Washington area for several years before moving to town.
Mrs. Dowdy worked various jobs in and around Washington but worked for many years as a postal clerk for the Washington Post Office.
In 1978 they moved to Purcell where they were charter members of Praise Cathedral Church. Mr. Dowdy died Dec. 20, 1997 and in 2000 she married Lee Reuben Madden. They made their home in Purcell. He preceded her in death June 4, 2003.
Mrs. Dowdy taught Sunday school for many different age groups.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, William Howard Dowdy and Lee Reuben Madden; a son-in-law, Dwayne Williams; four brothers, Blanchard, Chris, Hershel and John D. Rains and two sisters, Janet Dunford and Pauline Doussett.
Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Cypert and her husband, Buddy, of Purcell and Eva Williams of Norman;; three stepchildren Keith Madden and his wife, Kathleen of Louisville, Ky., William Madden of Connecticut, and Rita Simpson and her husband Jim, of Kentucky; a brother-in-law, Luther Dowdy and his wife, Reta, of Purcell; three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Joe Deaver, David Williams, Al Dodson, Mike Fielden, Wade Lowe and Terry Hillis.
