Wyman Eugene Cheek, age 64 of Purcell, passed away Saturday, January 4th 2014 at O.U. Medical Center in OKC after a short battle with brain cancer. Wyman was born June 6, 1949 in Purcell, OK. He was the oldest of two children born to Curtis Allen Cheek and Margie Faye (Tharp) Cheek. Wyman grew up a country boy attending Purcell schools, graduating with the class of 1967. In June of 1968, he started working for the Santa Fe Railroad. In May of 1969, he was drafted into the U. S. Army, where he earned up the Ranks to Sergeant and was sent overseas. Wyman served two years stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and returned home to Purcell. Wyman later met and married a young farm girl named Judy Moore from Washington, OK. They were married on March 18, 1972 and made their home west of Purcell where they raised two daughters, Tara and Bria. After returning home from the military, Wyman regained his old job with the Santa Fe Railroad, later known as the Burlington Northern Santa Fe or the BNSF. He worked for nearly 42 years as a carpenter and bridge builder, retiring in 2010. From 1997-2010, Wyman served as President of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Union, Lodge 2408. Wyman loved being outdoors and keeping busy. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing and hunting, listening to gospel music, watching sports on TV keeping up with the Oklahoma Sooners and most recently the OKC Thunder. And while his daughter Tara was growing up he was her softball coach. After he retired, Wyman enjoyed working around his family farm, gardening, spending time with his granddaughters and visiting with friends.

He is survived by: Wife: Judy Cheek of the home, Two daughters: Tara Woods and husband Britt of Edmond, Bria Shepard and husband Doug of Washington, Two granddaughters: Dorothy Shepard and Sierra Woods, Aunt: Betty Payne of Purcell, Sister: Pat Getto and her family, He is also survived by numerous beloved extended family- in-laws, and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at Washington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation.
