Donald Ray "Don" Burns

Donald Ray Burns was born July 9, 1936 in Duncan, OK, the 7th of 9 children born to James F.W. Burns and Virgie Ethel (Clarkson) Burns. He was raised in Gracemont and attended school there. Don was drafted into the United States Army and served his country proudly. While in the service, he was stationed in Hawaii, Guam and the Philippines. Don married his best friend and the love of his life; a young woman from Anadarko named Neta Joyce Mason, on May 6, 1960 in Vernon, TX. They made their home in OKC for a short time before settling in the Purcell and Washington area. Together they raised two children, son Stanley and daughter, Angela. Don worked as a tool maker at the York Manufacturing Plant, retiring after nearly 35 years of service. He was a family man; a wonderful husband and father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was an avid supporter of his children and grandchildren, and spent countless hours coaching little league baseball and softball, and he was an avid supporter of various activities for Washington schools. Don was a faithful Christian and a longtime member of the Washington First Baptist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the local VFW. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him!
He was preceded in death by: His parents, James and Virgie Burns and Siblings, Lucille Bryant, Louise Riddles, Nelda Robertson, Edith Sharp, Jeanie Butler, F.W. ‘Red Burns, Dee Burns and Delbert Burns.
Don leaves behind: His wife, Neta Burns of the home; Son, Stanley Burns and wife Kathy of Purcell; Daughter, Angela Vaughn and husband Eddie of Purcell; 5 grandchildren, Trevor, Paige, Colby, Mattie and Katie; Several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 31, 2015, at the Washington First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Washington Cemetery.
