Hollis ‘Hob’ Atkinson, age 83 of Purcell, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017.
John Hollis Atkinson was born November 2, 1934 at the family home place west of Washington, Oklahoma. He was the 2nd of 4 children born to Lester D. Atkinson and Hazel L. (Cox) Atkinson. He was raised in Washington and attended Washington Schools, graduating in 1953. He married Daisy Nell Bearden, and to this union, 3 children were born; daughter, Holly and sons, Tolar and Tobey. Hollis’s heart was in the land; a farmer and rancher by trade. He enjoyed the Rodeo, mainly for the socializing and the acquaintances he made over the years. Hollis, known to many as “Hob”, was a team roper well into his 70’s. In fact, he loved it so much, he built his own arena so he could put on Jackpot Ropings and practice when he wanted. He would often say, that his favorite horse “Buck” was like his 4th child. To his dying day, he maintained a sharp mind and peaceful spirit. Hob was a friend to many.
He was preceded in death by: His parents, Lester and Hazel Atkinson and His brother, Wayne Atkinson.
Hob is survived by: His daughter, Holly Stokes of Purcell; His boys, Tolar Atkinson and wife Trina of Purcell and Tobey Atkinson of Purcell; Sister, Louise Sutter of Purcell; Brother, Billy Atkinson of Washington; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, And a host of other family and friends.
Graveside Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday,
December 15, 2017, at the Washington Cemetery.
