Gwen “Sissy” Veitenheimer, age 74 of Wayne, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019, at the Lexington Nursing Home.
Gwendolyn Rose Wallace was born April 1, 1944 in Rosedale, OK, the youngest of 6 children born to Bill and Ramona Wallace. She was raised in Rosedale where she began school. Gwen met a young man named Sammy Donald Veitenheimer. They fell madly in love and on August 18, 1961, Gwen and Sammy were married in Newcastle. She later graduated from Wayne High School with the Class of 1962. Gwen and Sammy first made their home in Rosedale where together they raised 4 children; son, Bill and daughters, Ramona, Dawn and Samantha. They later settled in Wayne in 1983. Gwen’s greatest love was being a mother and grandmother. She coached little league sports and volunteered for all sorts of activities, just to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Gwen had a unique ability to make everyone around her feel special and loved. When Gwen’s health began to fail, she remained positive and faced each day with a smile. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a true friend.
