David Harold “Tooter” Jones, age 83, of Wayne, Oklahoma passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at his home.

He was born on January 27, 1935, in rural McClain County East of Wayne, OK. Tooter was the 2nd child of 10 children born to John Paul Jones and Nettie Mae (Morrow) Jones.

He grew up a country boy and learned how to work hard by working with his hands on the farm. He kept that same work ethic throughout his life, working as a farmer, hay hauler and barn builder.

Tooter married the love of his life, Velma Mae Hursh of Rosedale. They were married on November 17, 1956 in Wayne and together raised two children, Harold and Donna. For his entire life he remained living, working and raised his children in the community he grew up in. He attended the Rosedale First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and raising a garden. He especially loved raising tomatoes and okra. He will be remembered as a hardworking man. A man who loved his wife, his children and grandchildren. He was a good brother and uncle and a good friend.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, John Paul and Nettie Jones. Brother, Dickey Ray Jones. Sister, Joan Jones.

He is survived by: Wife, Velma Jones of the home. Son, Harold Jones and wife Sherry of Colorado, and daughter, Donna Jones of Wayne. Three brothers, J.L. Jones of Wayne, Paul D. Jones and wife Mary of Paoli, Jerry Jones and wife Susan of Wayne. Four sisters, Sue Short and husband Everett of Brokenbow, Lillie Dunkin and husband Virgil of Wayne, Brenda Springer and husband Paul of Davis, Debbie Green and husband Harold of Wynnewood. One grandchild, five step grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Rosedale First Baptist Church, in Rosedale, OK. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Ridgeway. Honorary pallbearers will be, Nick Williamson, Joe Cowen, Bill Cowen, Perry Nemecek, Jack Jones, Harley Duncan, Bruce Key and Bill Johns. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
