Shirley Groff, age 78 of Rosedale, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Shirley Sue Davis was born February 10, 1935 in Okmulgee County, OK, 1 of 11 children born to Preston Andrew Davis and Isabel “Dolly” (Thomas) Davis.
She spent most of her childhood in Okmulgee County and later near Idabel. She married her true love; a young man named M.A. Groff. Shirley worked tirelessly as a homemaker. Her greatest joy was being a wife and mother, caring and providing for her family. She was the proud mother of 5 children; sons, David and Roger and daughters, Laura, Alleen and Terrye. For the last 45 years, she has called Byars her home. Shirley was an outdoors woman. She would rather be cleaning her flower beds than the house. She was a rock collector, always looking for interesting rocks to add to her collection. She loved feeding the birds, and looked forward every spring to mixing sugar water to feed the honey bees and humming birds. Shirley was young at heart, and a wonderful teacher to her children and grandchildren, of life’s little things. She taught them to love, to live, to be strong and to care for others. And she never missed an opportunity to go barreling down a hill or grass sledding. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: Her husband, M.A. “Buddy” Groff; Her parents, Preston & Dolly Davis; Son-in-law, Tommy Jo Sharp in 2012; 1 sister, Tig Lemaster; and 4 brothers, Tom Davis, Clovis Davis, Bill Davis and Jim Davis.
Shirley leaves behind: Her sons, David Groff and wife Karen of Wayne and Roger Groff of Rosedale; Her daughters, Laura Groff and Allen Sharp, both of Rosedale, and Terrye Meyer of Blanchard; 2 brothers, Mitch Davis and wife Twyla of Broken Arrow, OK and Prescott Davis and wife Charla of Okmulgee, OK; 3 sisters, Doris Nickels and husband Lonnie of Okmulgee, Sharon Dunn of Morris, OK and Clois Creason and husband Wayne of Mounds, OK; 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Graveside Service has been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Rosedale Cemetery. Arrangements by Wilson-Little of Purcell. Online condolences at wilsonlittle.com.
