Funeral Services for Homer Eugene Dixson, 92, are scheduled at Pickard Funeral Home in Stratford on May 10, 2014 at 2 p.m. Interment is in the New Johnsonville Cemetery.

Mr. Dixson passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 in Purcell after a brief illness.

Homer was born February 9, 1922 in Lexington, Oklahoma, one of three children born to William and Ettie Dixson. He grew up a farm boy, in Lexington and near Byars. He had an aptitude for mechanical work.

Homer joined the United States Army Air Corp in 1942 and proudly served his country during World War II for 37 months earning three bronze service stars. He landed in North Africa at Casablanca and also served in southern Italy. His military occupations included small weapons mechanic, truck driver and chauffeur for a general. He also operated a crane assisting in the construction of aircraft hangers and managed a hotel for officers.

He married June Milfford on November 16, 1946. They had met as children when they lived on neighboring farms in the Johnsonville area. Together they raised two daughters, Carole and Marla in Byars.

Homer had many occupations thru the years, including farming, truck driving and as a mechanic. He retired from McClain County District 1 where he worked as a truck driver.

He enjoyed traveling. As a teenager he moved a family from Chisholm to Califronia with the help of his brother, Elbert and another friend. The whole group traveled in the same truck with the families' belongings. He enjoyed traveling with his family numerous places in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. In later years he and his wife took the family snow skiing in New Mexico. He also enjoyed going to the lake with family and friends. He patiently taught many kids to water ski.

Homer was preceded in death by his wife, June in 2011; his parents Will and Ettie Dixson and siblings, Roxie High and Elbert Dixson.

He leaves behind his two, daughters, Carole Pence and husband, Gary of Hurst, Texas and Marla Cail and husband, Bo of Byars, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Sean Beck, Brandi Weaver and husband, Robert of Ft. Worth, Texas, Jared Cail of Washington, D.C., Ambia Cail of Stillwater, Oklahoma, three great-grandchildren, Triston, Travis and Katy Weaver and nieces and nephwes and a host of other faimly and friends.

Pallbearers will be Sean Beck Robert Weaver, Gary Pence Jared Cail, Bo Cail Harold Couch, Honorary Pallbearers, Triston Weaver Travis Weaver.

June Dixson, of Byars was born June 21, 1925 in Byars, Oklahoma to Vester and Lizzy Milford. She passed away December 14, 2011 at Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years 5 months and 23 days. She was married to Homer Dixson in Van Buren, Arkansas on November 16, 1946. During the war she worked and lived in California. Most of her life has been in the Byars area where she was the School secretary, member of the Garden Club and member of the Byars Church Of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Sean Beck, Robert Weaver, Gary Pence, Jared Cail, Bo Cail, Harold Couch, Honorary Pallbearers, Triston Weaver, and Travis Weaver.

Survived by her husband, Homer Dixson, Byars, OK.; 2 daughters, Carole Pence & husband Gary, Hurst, TX.; Marla Cail & husband Bo, Byars, OK.; 4 grandchildren, Brandi Weaver & husband Robert, Hurst, TX.; Sean Beck, Ft. Worth, TX.; Ambia Cail, Mustang, OK.; Jared Cail, Washington, DC; 3 great-grandchilddren, Triston, Travis, and Katie.

Services will be held Saturday December 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Pickard Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Gary Pence. Burial will be at New Johnsonville Cemetery, Byars, OK.
