Wanda Cantrell, age 94 of Wayne, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020.
Wanda Ernestine Hankins was born December 12, 1925 in Byars, OK, the youngest of 3 children born to Ernest and Edna Hankins. She was raised primarily in the Box Elder Community where she began school, and later attended Byars. Wanda married her best friend and life partner Roy Vonsol Cantrell on July 22, 1946 in Purcell. They made their home in Wayne where together they raised their only son, Ernest. Wanda worked a variety of jobs throughout the years. She and Roy owned and operated a snow cone stand and ice dock off of Highway 77 in Wayne. Her greatest joy was simply being a wife and mother, and nothing brought her more happiness than her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time in her yard, tending to her flower gardens and quilting. Wanda was an excellent cook and will be forever remembered by her grandchildren for her fried chicken. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and a good friend. She will be dearly missed!
