Wesley Alva Wilson, age 77 of Newcastle, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at Norman Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 19 at the Southern Ridge Church of Christ in OKC. Burial will follow at the Blanchard Cemetery. Officiating will be Mr. Russ Dyer.

Wes was born December 9, 1928 in Chickasha, Okla. and his parents were Alva and Josie Bull Wilson. He grew up a farm boy in Grady Co. near Cox City & graduated from Cox City, high school in 1947.

He then began college, attending two years at Cameron University and two years at Central State University where he received his Bachelors Degree in History. After college he entered the U.S. Air Force and served two years overseas in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

After being honorably discharged, Wes returned home and married a local girl, Lorella Howell. They were married on August 24, 1957 in Okla, City and made their home there for nearly 16 years. Wes and Lorella moved from the city to a farm in Newcastle in 1973.

Wes worked many years for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission and retired in 1983 as assistant Chief of Research. While working for the Commission he had served as President of the board of directors for ESEO Credit Union.

When Wes retired, he became active in the community of Newcastle. For the past 20 years he has worked as a reporter for the Newcastle Pacer and had also worked for the Blanchard News.

He was currently serving as a Councilman on the Newcastle City Council and had served on the City Planning Committee. He was an active member of the Newcastle Senior Citizens - where he served as President, the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce, and an elder for 25 years at the Newcastle Heights Church of Christ and was presently a member of the Southern Ridge Church of Christ in South Okla. City.

Throughout his life, Wes enjoyed traveling, raising cattle and gardening. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandson.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Josie Wilson.

He is survived by wife Lorella Wilson of the home; two daughters, Jo Ellen Collin and husband Rick of Dallas; Beth Ann Sexton and husband Dick of Bloomington, IN.; one grandson Brandon Sexton; three cousins and many other loving relatives also a host of friends.

Pallbearers; Gene Judkins, Wayne Haynes, Walter McFadden, Larry Baldwin, Jeff and Jason Hall. Honorary bearers will be: Athan Mayhugh, Larry Scott, Roy Wilson, Joe Miller, Leo Gramling and Don Worden.

Memorials may be made to REFLECTION newsletter Care of Lindsay Church of Christ, Hwy 19 West, Lindsay, OK, 73052. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle.
