Frances Jolene Young was born in Carmi, Illinois on January 6, 1941. She passed away January 15, 2017 in Oklahoma City surrounded by her family.
Jolene is the daughter of Esther Alene Hine, and enjoyed growing up surrounded by her grandparents and uncles in Frederick, Oklahoma. While working at the drug store in town, she met the love of her life, Truman David Young, and the two were married on May 29, 1957. Together they raised three children: David, Gayla and Kathy. Jolene loved being a wife, mother and homemaker, but she was also Truman’s biggest supporter in starting their family business, Truman’s Fabric and Foam. For many years Jolene and Truman enjoyed being involved with USSSA. While Truman coached, Jolene kept the score books, became the state secretary, sat on many national committees, and was honored by being inducted into the hall of fame. Most notably though, she became all of the ball player’s “mom”.
Jolene was a faithful Christian and was very involved with every church she attended. While at Exchange Avenue Baptist Church, she worked in the daycare and poured into the lives of many children. Truman and Jolene went on to attend South Lindsey Baptist Church where they were heavily involved. For the last 20 years they have been members of Woodland Hills Baptist Church. Jolene was in charge of the arts and crafts for Vacation Bible School, and she also coordinated and prepared funeral meals for families.
Jolene loved working with arts and crafts and was an avid quilter. She was an excellent seamstress, and made many outfits for her kids and grandkids. Jolene was a fabulous cook, and especially loved canning, baking and preparing holiday meals for her family. She is most famous for her potato salad and lemonade cake.
Jolene was a true friend, and everyone’s #1 fan. She saw the best in people, loved to listen, gave without any strings attached, and she was famous for her hugs and infectious smile. Jolene loved to teach what she knew, and she did so with unending patience. She loved going to antique stores, drinking Sonic Diet Cokes, eating ice cream with Truman, watching classic movies with her grandkids, listening to big band music, planting and keeping her garden, learning about holistic remedies and going on the Ladies Trip with her church friends.
Most of all, Jolene fiercely loved her family with every ounce of her being. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on for generations.
