Betty Wilson was born on February 3rd, 1931 to parents Arley Lee and Mary Maude Epperson in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She passed away peacefully in the home of her son Steve on August 17, 2023 at the age of 92.
Betty is survived by her son Steven Albert Wilson and his wife Malinda; grandchildren Michael Wilson and his wife Sarah, Marcie Myers and her husband Jeff, Dylan Wilson, Jeremy Wilson, Melissa Watts and her husband Taylor; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, sons Jerry Don Wilson and James Lee Wilson and by great granddaughter Lillie Ann Myers.
Betty is furthermore survived by three sisters, Mary Louise Flynn, Alma Ruth Nolan, and Martha Paulette Huffman; seven other siblings having preceded them into rest.
Betty was many things to many people: wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Perhaps most all, however, she was the concept of HOME made flesh. Whether you were in her house, in her fifth wheel on a vacation, or in your own living room, she brought HOME with her everywhere she went. She was warmth, acceptance, welcome, kindness, and nourishment. Her table was the center of gravity for any family gathering. Pancakes, beef stew, fried chicken, dumplings, and roasts were in regular rotation, but you could always count on any meal ending with the world’s greatest handmade apple pie.
After a brief career with Safeway from 1955 to 1957, Betty committed her many remaining years to her husband and to her family. In addition to raising her three boys, she was also instrumental in the raising and caretaking of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in whom she instilled wonder, curiosity, creativity, and the security of knowing that they were loved unconditionally.
Betty will be laid to rest on Monday, August 21, 2023 in Newcastle Memorial Gardens. Services will be held at Eisenhour Funeral Home in Blanchard at 2PM. Public viewing will be held on Sunday from 2:30 to 8:00. Eisenhour Funeral Home is located at 2500 N Council Ave, Blanchard, OK 73010.
