Shirley Ruth Shores age 75 of Oklahoma City, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 at Norman Regional Hospital. She was born May 4, 1939 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She was the 2nd daughter of four daughters born to James Thomas Hart and Ruth LaRue (Witt) Hart. Shirley grew up in South OKC and attended Capitol Hill Schools. She later met and married Thomas Shores. They were married on November 28, 1963 and together they raised four children. Shirley began working for Western Electric in OKC in the 1960’s. The company later sold to AT&T and then to Lucent Technology where she retired after working nearly 30 years. Throughout her life, Shirley loved her pets. She always had a dog but most recently enjoyed her birds. She also had a green thumb and enjoyed growing plants and flowers. Most of all Shirley liked being a homebody; she enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and watching TV. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful sister, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by: Parents, James and Ruth Hart; Husband, Thomas Shores;
She is survived by: Two daughters, Leslie Towns and husband Bernie of Blanchard, Glenda Fletcher and husband Richard of Newcastle; Two sons, Roger Shores of Newcastle, David Shores of Beaumont, TX; Three sisters, Betty Sue Hulsey and husband Dean of OKC, Peggy Smith of Mountain View, OK, Helen Hart-Taylor of OKC; Four grandchildren, Matthew and Aaron Fletcher, Debra Madewell and husband Sam and Alissa Shores; Three great grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews and other loving family relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 6, 2014 at Newcastle Memorial Gardens in Newcastle, OK. Arrangements are with Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle.
