Kathie Lavern Rumsey, age 76 of Newcastle, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
She was born on April 11, 1941, in Lenna, OK to Charlie McGuire and Florence (Hughes) McGuire. Kathie was the fifth of six children, she grew up in Lenna and attended school in Stidham, OK, where she graduated with the class of 1949. On May 18, 1963, Kathie married the love of her life, Jon P. Rumsey. Together they raised two sons, Steve and Jeff. After living in Homestead, Florida for one year, Kathie and Jon then moved to Oklahoma City and lived there six years. In 1973, they moved to Newcastle where they live today. Kathie started working as a bank teller in South Oklahoma City. Through hard work and perseverance she worked her way up the banking ladder, becoming a loan officer and then Vice President at Southwest Bank and Trust Company. She later retired after 34 years in the banking industry. Throughout her life, Kathie enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking. When her sons and later granddaughters were in high school, she enjoyed attending their sporting events. Kathie also enjoyed watching college and professional sports. She was an OU fan, a Dallas Cowboy fan and later became an OKC Thunder fan. After moving to Newcastle, Kathie became an active member of the Newcastle First Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and a dear friend to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by: Parents, Charlie and Florence McGuire; Sister, Evelyn Boettger;
She was survived by: Husband, Jon P. Rumsey of Newcastle, OK; Sons, Steve Rumsey of Dallas, TX, Jeff Rumsey of Newcastle, OK; 3 Brothers, Clarence McGuire and wife Betty of Muskogee, OK, Robert McGuire and wife Elaine of Hulbert, OK, Fred McGuire of Noble, OK; 1 Sister, Nema Johnson of Weatherford, TX; 2 granddaughters, Madison Gutel and husband Caleb of Newcastle, OK, Mackenzie Knight and husband Gabe of Dayton, TN; 2 great grandchildren, Ryland Gutel, and Exodus Knight. Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Newcastle.
Burial will follow at Newcastle Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nancy Vineyard Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Newcastle.
