Bruce Leo Robertson Sr. age 69 of Newcastle passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017 after a battle with cancer. Bruce was born March 5, 1947 in Denver, Colorado. His parents were George Donald Robertson and Elizabeth Jane (Brewer) Robertson. Bruce grew up in Denver and at the age of 17 he enlisted into the U. S. Coast Guard. One year later while stationed in Baltimore, Maryland he met the love of his life, Mildred “Millie” Ann Neuman. They were married on July 6, 1965 in Baltimore and later raised four sons, Paul, Donald, Bruce Jr. and Steven. Bruce lived in various towns throughout his 23 years in the Coast Guard. He had lived in Baltimore, New Jersey, New York, Denver, Hawaii, San Diego and Virginia all before retiring in OKC in 1987. Two weeks after retiring Bruce started working for the National Weather Center in Norman, later transferring to the Mike Maronie FAA Center in OKC. He worked for the FAA for 19 years before retiring. Bruce was a member of the U. S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association, the VFW, the DAV and a life member of the NRA. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. While his children and grandchildren were growing up he was their favorite sports fan. Some of his favorite hobbies were bird watching and taking pictures of birds. He also enjoyed woodworking and building bird houses. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by: His Parents, George and Elizabeth Robertson.
He is survived by: Wife of 51 ½ years, Millie Robertson of the home in Newcastle, Four sons, Paul Robertson and wife Christy of Blanchard, Donald Robertson and wife Mavys of Newcastle, Bruce Robertson Jr. and wife Anja of Bridgecreek, Steven Robertson and wife Renee of Newcastle, One sister, Malinda Weddle and husband Gary of Edgewood, NM. nine grandchildren, Miranda, Sarah, Megan, Amanda, Elizabeth, Alexis, Trinity, Zach and Paola; Four great grandchildren, Sophia, Bruce III, Emma and September; Four nieces, Nancy, Ronica, Renee and Lisa; One nephew, Shaun, Several cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Newcastle. Interment will be at the Newcastle Memorial Gardens.
