Cynthia Ann McMains, age 60, of Newcastle, formerly of Seminole, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Sunday, August 18, 2013. She was born October 16, 1952 in Lawton, Oklahoma, the 2nd of five children born to Robert Neal Hammons and Ella Louise (LeMaster) Hammons. Cynthia grew up in Clinton, the daughter of a Baptist minister, and graduated from Clinton High School in 1970. In high school she received many honors and awards, but her greatest claim to fame was being elected “Red Tornado Girl”. Cynthia was best known for her beautiful smile and genuine love of others. She never missed an opportunity to tell others about Jesus. After H.S. she attended Oklahoma Baptist University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1975, Cynthia took the advice of her older brother Sam and went on a blind date. That night she met the love of her life, Larry McMains. They were married on August 1, 1975 in Clinton, and soon made their first home in Norman. While Larry attended Law School at the University of Oklahoma, Cynthia worked as a school teacher. They later moved to Seminole where they raised their four children. Cynthia was a stay at home mom until the kids were off to college and later assisted Larry in his law practice. She was a very diligent worker, unless she had something better to do, like shop with her daughters. Cynthia loved spending time with her family and doing whatever her husband, children and later her grandchildren enjoyed doing. She loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s many school activities, taking them to summer tennis tournaments, shopping, and on family vacations to Colorado and Port Aransas. While living in Seminole, Cynthia faithfully attended and worshiped at First Baptist Church. For 25 years she served as the church pianist and taught Sunday School in the Youth Department. In 2011, she and Larry moved to Newcastle to be closer to family. She joined First Baptist Church where her son-in-law serves as pastor. Cynthia was a beautiful and talented woman, but it was her inner beauty that impacted people most. She was always aware of the needs of others and did her best to make everyone feel special. Whether ministering to new church members, visiting widows, or sending daily scriptures to countless individuals, Cynthia was constantly seeking to make a difference. And, she did!
