Gabriel Oshway Burris, age 71, of Newcastle, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, November 22, 2010.
After graduating from Tupelo High School in 1956, Gabe joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country for 3 1/2 years in the 101st Airborne during the Korean Conflict. Gabe worked many years before retiring from MPI. He was proud of his Chickasaw roots, and in the early 1990s, he began working for the Chickasaw Nation. Throughout his long and joyful career with the Chickasaws, Gabe served as a Chickasaw Legislator and held other numerous positions within the Chickasaw Nation.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Trina Jenkins.
He is survived by wife, Molly, of the home; 3 sons: Terry Burris and wife, Kai; Tracy Burris and wife, Toni; Anthony Burris; 1 daughter, Missy Shores and husband, Toby; son-in-law, Cliff Jenkins; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers and sisters and their families.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 29, 2010, at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Hospice, 800 Rock Creek Rd., Suite 101, Norman, OK 73069. Arrangements are with Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle
