Naomi Sharp, of Purcell, formerly of Wayne, OK, put on her dancing shoes and wings to leave this world and went to be with her God and her loved ones who have gone before on Good Friday, April 10, 2020. Naomi was born on Friday, September 13, 1929 to Cecil Velmar and Anna Jane (Fielder) Murray at home on the family farm west of Rosedale, OK. She was 90 years old.

Naomi was born into a row crop farm family at the start of the Great Depression. Times were rough for Naomi throughout her life but she always made the best of what she had and had the philosophy that even when you have nothing to give, you can give a smile.

There were many schools that Naomi attended from Signal Hill at Rosedale, OK where she started the Primmer to Wayne High School where she graduated in 1948. Her most treasured school memories were the years she attended Washington Schools.

After graduation in 1948, Naomi worked her first job away from the farm at the McClain County A.S.C. office for four years. This job enabled her to purchase her own herd of 15 Hereford cows. It was while working there that she met and married Hollis Gallup, Jr. on October 20, 1951. Her first daughter, Karen, was born to this union. When they divorced, in 1953, Naomi went to work at Purcell Seed and Grain in Purcell to support herself and her daughter and worked there for four years.

A young man from Wayne, OK stole Naomi’s heart and he fell in love with her and her little girl. On December 27, 1955, she and Darwin Sharp were married. In 1957, as a U.S. Army enlisted officer, they moved to Fort Polk, LA Army base and lived there for two years. Naomi was terrified of the alligators in the area.

When Darwin’s Army enlistment was done, they moved back to Wayne, OK. Their family grew to include Reneč, Sandy and Stacy. Naomi loved her girls and did her best to take care of them. In 1971, she and Darwin divorced and Naomi went back to work right away to provide for herself and her girls. She was a hard worker and worked at Clifton Insurance, Pauls Valley Farm and Ranch Store, Roy Wilson Rug Mfg., Sherri Classics, Kellwood Mfg., Barbour & Short Construction Co., Circle L Industries, The OU Goody Shop, Wright’s IGA and ended her outside the home working career by cleaning houses in Norman when she was 82 years old.

Through all these years, she provided for her girls till they all graduated high school and had jobs of their own, sold her farm at Wayne, bought a house north of Maysville and survived it flooding in 2016, when she was forced to leave her peaceful country life and move to a house in Purcell. Her relationship with God and His Word were what got Naomi through hard times. While her family lived at Washington, OK, they attended the Washington Baptist Church where she was saved and baptized in Morehead’s pond when she was 14. She attended many churches in her lifetime but the many years spent in the Purcell Free Will Baptist Church where she loved teaching the Junior Sunday School class and made many lifelong friends were very special to her.b Naomi’s family was her world and she loved each and every one in it. She was a very caring and giving person who would give the shirt off her back to help someone, even a stranger. She loved to cook and was a very talented seamstress. She liked to embroider, crochet, garden. Her favorite thing in all the world was getting to visit with and play with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her pride and joy and she was loved and treasured by each one by giving unique and special memories of times spent with their Nana.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Sidney, Melvin and Junior Murray and infant sister, Goldie Marie Murray.

Naomi is survived by her four daughters, Karen Masterson and husband, Jerrald, Renee’ Barnes and husband, Ricky, Sandy Griffin and husband, Jon, Stacy Sharp and husband, Derral Carter, six grandchildren, Courtney Masterson and wife, Beckie, Audra Masterson, Katie Romo and husband, Ele, Elexis Cannon and husband, Travis, Lydia Butler, Rosie Ericsson and husband, Ross, and eleven great grandchildren, Titus, Morgan and Katie Masterson, Addison, Alexis and Asher Romo, Birdie and Goldie Cannon, Ace, Georgia and Eloise Ericsson, two sisters-in-law, Lillian Murray and June Murray, six nephews, Collin, Ryan, Leland, Aaron, Gaylon, and Mike Murray and two nieces, Janet McGowen and Rhonda Brown, and numerous other relatives, friends and Reminisce care givers who were so fond of her.

Graveside services at Hopping Cemetery were held Saturday, April 11, 2020 at 11:00 am with Rev. Justin Blankenship officiating and Jerrald Masterson reading the eulogy.
