Longtime Wayne resident, Zelda Murray, age 91 of Lexington, passed away Wednesday August 17, 2016, at the Lexington Nursing Home. Zelda Marie Penner was born December 23, 1924 in Wolf Bluff, Arkansas, the 3rd of 12 children born to Henry Clifton Penner and Edna Mae (Clark) Penner. When she was still very young, the family moved to the Rosedale area where she attended school. Zelda learned the value of hard work, farming alongside her brothers and sisters. She met a young man in the community named Billy “Bud” Murray. They fell in love and were married on August 19, 1954 in Purcell. They made their home in the Byars, Rosedale and Wayne Communities all their lives. Zelda worked in food service for the University of Oklahoma, retiring after more than 25 years. She worked alongside Bud, farming, and enjoyed the fruits of their labor together. Zelda enjoyed fishing and listening to blue grass music. She was a master gardener and spent many a day canning vegetables. Zelda was a gifted quilter and shared her gifts with her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother; sister, aunt and a true friend, who always took the time and enjoyed catching up and visiting with her family. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Billy “Bud” Murray. Her parents, Henry and Edna Penner; 2 sisters, Bertha Kelso and Towanda Clour; 6 brothers, Charles “Red”, Jim, Melvin, Jerrel, Tom and Russell Penner; 2 nieces, Mary Jane Penner and Louise Stewart and A nephew, Edward Penner.
Zelda leaves behind: Her Daughter, Tammy Peery of Norman; Son, Jeremy Penner of Lexington; 2 sisters, Dorothy Jones and husband Junior of Rosedale and Mary Lynn of Purcell; Brother, Johnny Penner of Lexington; 4 grandchildren, Shyanne Bruton, Colton Penner, Brandon Peery and Blake Penner; Several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 19, 2016, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Hopping Cemetery. Arrangements by Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell. Send online condolences at wilsonlittle.com.
