Larry Keith McCurley, age 63 of Wayne, passed away at his home Monday, July 09, 2012.
Larry was born August 24, 1948 in Pauls Valley, OK, the 7th of 8 children born to Marvin McCurley and Vesta (Gray) McCurley. Larry was raised in Paoli and attended school there, graduating in 1966.
He joined the United States Army and served his country proudly during the Vietnam War.
Larry married JoAnne Box on March 31, 1967 in Norman, OK. They made their home in Wayne where they raised their daughters, Jenny & Julie.
Larry began a career in telecommunications with Western Electric, later retiring from Southwestern Bell.
Larry was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a good friend. He stayed very active in supporting his girls and later his grandchildren in their various sports and school activities. He spent countless hours coaching softball and just doing what needed to be done. He loved his home and especially driving his tractor. Larry was a 32nd Degree Mason and a great support of all Masonic activities. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by: His parents, Marvin and Vesta McCurley; Brother, Robert McCurley; Sister, Emma Lois Moore; Brother-in-law, Jerry Box and Sister-in-laws, Vickie Box and Carolyn Gayle Ball.
Larry leaves behind: His wife, JoAnne McCurley of the home; His daughters, Jenny Farris and husband Mike of Purcell and Julie Smith and husband Darin of Norman; 2 brothers, Harold McCurley and wife Jean of Moore and Lewis McCurley and wife Cathy of Eufaula, OK; 3 sisters, Joyce Bolin and husband Norman of Ada, OK, Barbara McCurley of Ada and Glenna Young and husband Larry of Lampasas, TX; 3 grandchildren, Shelby and Brendan Farris and Lauren Smith and A host of other family and friends.
A Graveside Funeral Service is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at the Hopping Cemetery in Wayne, OK. Memorials may be made to the Wayne United Methodist Church in Larry’s Memory.
