Lyman Dwain Johns, age 91 of Purcell, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
He was born April 10, 1934 in Rosedale, Oklahoma, the oldest of three sons born to Lonnie and Pearl (Boles) Johns.
Raised in Rosedale and attending school there, he graduated with the Cardinals Class of 1952. Lyman answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Army. He served overseas in Japan during the Korean War.
Lyman had two children – a daughter, Lisa and son, Bobby.
Lyman worked as a mail carrier in Purcell for 12 years, before starting a career in trucking. He logged countless miles driving cross country. He worked for Leeway for a time, and later Total Petroleum, retiring after more than 30 years of dedicated service.
Lyman found love again when he met Barbara (Baker) Patterson while they were both attending church at Kings Gate in Lexington. Eventually marrying on March 20, 1993, the two families became one.
Anyone who knew Lyman knows how much he loved a good joke. With his wonderful sense of humor, he always proved himself friendly, and truly never met a stranger. Lyman was an avid OU fan and cheered hard for his Sooners. He was a man of great faith; a wonderful husband and father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a true friend. He will be dearly missed!

Lyman is survived by: his wife of 33 years, Barbara Johns; children, Lisa Robbins and husband Gary of Reno, NV, Bobby Johns and wife Sue of Antioch, CA, Trent Patterson and wife Susan of Richmond, VA, Wendy England and husband Chris of Split, Croatia; his brother, Bill Johns of Purcell; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
