Leroy Edmonds, age 85 of Shawnee, OK passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Leroy Coy Edmonds was born March 11, 1933, in Morris, OK. He was the 3rd son of six sons born to Ozie Edmonds and Alta (Rainey) Edmonds. Leroy spent his childhood in Oklahoma and relocated with his family to California as a young boy. It was there he graduated from high school in 1951. Leroy proudly served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and after being honorably discharged he met Gwendolyn Stinnett, his forever love. They were married on May 29, 1955 and made their home in Stockton, CA where together they raised three children, daughters, Sheila and Gail and son, Dale. In 1977, Leroy and Gwen returned to their beloved OK and settled in Shawnee. For more than 30 years they owned and operated D & L Tire until their retirement.
Leroy was a man with a big and generous heart. Always willing to help someone in need, a meek and gentle man with a humble spirit who openly loved his family. Throughout his life, he enjoyed meeting people at his business and staying at home. He liked working in his yard, playing cards and crossword puzzles. Over the past several years he became an avid OKC Thunder fan.
He was preceded in death by:
Parents: Ozie and Alta Edmonds;
Four brothers: Billie, Troy, Jim and Larry;
His wife of 62 years: Gwen Edmonds in 2017.
He is survived by:
Three children: Shelia Edmonds of Tulsa, Dale Edmonds and wife Anna of Shawnee, Gail Powers and husband Daryl of Shawnee;
Three grandchildren: Jennifer Powers, Jeff Powers and Kelley Edmonds all of Shawnee;
Brother: Jerry Edmonds of Waterford, CA;
Brothers and sisters –in-law: Donald and Carmen Moseley of Shawnee,Conrad and LaNell McGee of Stevenson, CA.
And many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday and Tuesday, May 28th & 29th at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Graveside services will be 10 AM Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Hopping Cemetery in Wayne, OK.
The family will greet friends at Funeral Home at 8:30am, Wednesday before going to the Hopping Cemetery.
