Heaven gained, perhaps one of its biggest crusaders, on Saturday afternoon, March 5th. Richard LeRoy Davis, “Richie” of Newcastle, OK never met a stranger. His true joy in life was Jesus and he never met one person that he didn’t tell about his Jesus. He served in his church faithfully in any capacity he could.
He may have been 51 years old physically, but mentally he was perpetually 12. Because of this, Richie knew absolutely no division of persons. He loved every single person he came in contact with. He loved his family and Gospel music. He loved Thursday afternoon pop runs, Bonanza and John Wayne. He knew something about everything.
His child like wonder and utter faith & belief in the Lord, and un-deniable tenacity to love people the Lord’s way, is a lifestyle we could all only pray to achieve in our lifetime. The earth lost a man that was the most “known”, yet humble man I’ve ever met. But heaven knew his name long before he ever entered those gates.
Richie, you left a legacy and impact behind, far bigger than just any one man. Anyone that looked at you knew that you walked with Jesus and I know that’s all you ever wanted. Our hearts are broken but yours is filled. 2 Corinthians 5:8 “…to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
He is survived by: His parents Richard and Alta Davis. His brothers and their wives: Jonathan & Heather Davis and Mark &l Michelle Davis. Nieces & Nephews: Zach &l wife Addison Davis, Megan Carter & husband Blake, Carli Davis, Kinzie Davis and Kendall Davis. Aunt Shirley cousins Chuck Cartledge and wife Janet, and Kelsey Malicott and numerous others.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Friday, March 11th at the Southwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will follow at 2:00pm at Hopping Cemetery in Wayne, Oklahoma.
