JoAnn Weigel age 75 of Purcell, passed away while surrounded by her children on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Grace Living Center in Norman.

JoAnn was born September 17, 1940 in Newcastle, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of three children born to Edwin Samuel Kerr and Edna May (Shaffer) Kerr. JoAnn grew up in Beaver Falls and graduated from Beaver High School in 1958. After high school she attended Drexel Institute of Technology and Texas Women’s University, where she received her B.S. Degree in Fashion Design Art. While attending college, JoAnn married Gary Brant Weigel a young Navy Sailor from New Brighton, PA. They were married on July 2, 1960 in Beaver Falls. In July of 1962, they moved to Purcell, OK where JoAnn started working for a clothing factory called Sherri Classics. In 1966 her Fashion Design career continued at Edmonds in Denver, Colorado, then in 1970 she returned to Sherri Classics in Purcell. She was an entrepreneur and started her own businesses: The Rag Bag and JoAnn’s Designs. JoAnn continued working many years as an Interior Designer and Real Estate Broker until her health required for her to retire. While living in Purcell, JoAnn and Brant raised two daughters, Sara and Carin. The family attended Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women’s organization, loved singing in the church choir and with the Trinity Methodist Women’s ensemble. She was a life time member of the Texas Women’s University Alumni and served as past President of American Assoc. of University Women. She was a member of the Girl Scouts of America for 50 years and served as a troop leader. Throughout her life JoAnn was an avid reader, she loved sewing, practicing art and doing all kinds of crafts. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. And a dear friend to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Edwin and Edna Kerr, Husband, Brant Weigel in 2004, Grandson, Geoffrey Lee Walker, Son-in-law, David Scott Hodson this year, Four brothers-in-law, Richard, Don, Blair and William Weigel. Sister-in-law, Mildred Weigel.

She is survived by: Two daughters, Sara Staats and husband Scott of Crowder, OK, Carin Hodson of Edmond, OK. Two brothers, Robert S. Kerr and wife Lucia of New York, Charles E. Kerr and wife Rose of Little Rock, AR. Two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Weigel of New Brighton, PA. Edie Weigel of New Brighton, PA. Four grandchildren, Courtney Kay Walker, Kendall Renae Walker, Dustin Scott Staats and Rebecca Jo Staats. Also several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Purcell, OK. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Arrangements are with Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
