On January 2, 2015 at the Mercy Hospital in Okla. City, Pearlie Mae Weathers took a flight that was scheduled at 4:03 am. With a quiet farewell, she peacefully stepped on board and her daughter and grandchildren bid adieu.
On February 25, 1933, Essie McClain Barnes and Willie Weathers introduced to the world their new baby girl, Ms. Pearlie Mae Weathers.
Pearlie was reared in the Dripping Springs community in Okmulgee County and received her formal education in a Rosenwald School “Rocky Hill” and also attended OSU-Okmulgee Tech. She confessed a faith in Christ and joined the Greater Jones Chapel AME Zion in Okmulgee where she remained a faithful member serving in many capacities until moving to Okla. City. Pearlie was a lady that met no stranger and made herself available to aid anyone who needed her assistance. Pearlie was employed at the Okmulgee Memorial Hospital for over 15 years as a medical assistance. After retiring she continued to work in private nursing services and bake. Her love for people and cooking and her strong work ethic did not allow her to retire to leisure. Being raised in a large family she always enjoyed having family and friends around to enjoy her fabulous cooking and funny stories, “you were always WELCOME at Pearlie’s”. Pearlie enjoyed life and there was never a dull moment when in her presence. Pearlie the impeccable dresser with a quick witty sense of humor and her unduplicated “Sock It To Me Cake” that was always in demand will truly be missed. Pearlie loved her children and one of her proudest moments was the college graduation of her baby “Sonya”. Then there was nothing better in this world than her grandchildren whom she adored and with every opportunity to provide for them and brag about them she did. In 1996 Pearlie moved to Oklahoma City to be close to her daughters. There she gained employment in the medical field until her health forced her to actually retire. She moved to Purcell, Ok. and united with the First Baptist Santa Fe Church under Pastoral ship of Rev. Rickey McNeal. She loved her new church and Pastor. She remained faithful until her health would not allow her to attend physically but she always thought of her church family and prayed for them. She continued to bake and with the support and care of her daughter Sonya, she moved back to Okla. City. Pearlie had a good life. Pearlie was confident in her Saviour, who was in control and she trusted his authority and did not worry about circumstances but would often say, “I pray for my family all the time”. She would tell them if she felt they were wrong or right and did not back down.
Waiting in slumber are her parents, a daughter, Palecia Roundtree, sons, Regional Weathers and Maurice Coulter, 4 sisters Lynell Jackson, Gladys Jones, Lurlene Hopkins and Wilma McWhorter and 2 brothers, Willie Chatman Jr. and Jackie Weathers.
Family that lament her departure but cherish the memories: a devoted daughter, Sonya Smith and son Se’Carl Hopkins, both of Okla. City, Ok. 9 grandchildren: Tyrone (Tiffany) Harris, Waylan Jones-Melton, Marquecia (Kent Sr.) Rice, Scherryl Coulter, LaQuita Adams, Misty Hopkins, and Precious Roundtree. Keith Gardner and Carla Jones (both are the children of the late Reginald Weathers). 4 Great-grandchildren: Shylan Melton, Kent Jr., Kovan Rice and Tyler Harris. One sister: Doris Colston and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 9, 2014, at the Fifth Street Missionary Baptist Church, 801 N.E. 5th, Oklahoma City, OK.
A
Committal Service is scheduled for 3:00 P.M. at the
