Sue Nelle (Boatwright) Sparlin age 85 of Purcell passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 after complications from a stroke. Sue was born on October 17, 1934 near Wayne, Oklahoma to Lewis Russell Boatwright and Lou Eva (Rankin) Boatwright. Sue grew up in the Wayne and Purcell area and graduated from Purcell High School with the class of 1952.
On May 2, 1952 she married Arthur David Sparlin. Together they made their home in Purcell and raised four children, David, Cathy, Carol and Mark. She worked alongside David in the family business, Sparlin Pontiac-GMC-Buick, Inc., as a bookkeeper for over forty years. Sue loved her church family at Purcell First Baptist Church and helped cook and serve many fellowship meals there. She was active in the Purcell community and was a member of the original Mineliyi Mothers Club, Town and Country Home Extension Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed time spent at the lake, playing bridge with her girlfriends and was an excellent cook. Her home was the gathering place for many family holidays and parties.
She was preceded in death by:
Her parents, Lewis Russell Boatwright and Lou Eva Newman
Two sisters, Wanda Newman and Jane Hush
One brother, William “Bill” Newman and
Her husband of 66 years, David Sparlin.
She is survived by:
Her children, David and Jane Sparlin of Purcell, OK; Cathy and Tony Ellis of Purcell, OK; Carol and Monty Marcum of Goldsby, OK; Mark and Darren Owen of Pauls Valley, OK.
One sister, Betty Verduzco of Little Elm, TX.
One brother, Jim Newman of Norman, OK.
Nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one more on the way.
Also, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
The Sparlin family would like to give a special thank you to the team members of Valir Hospice and Sunset Estates of Purcell for the kindness and care they provided.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 14, 2020, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
