Kenneth Shobert, 80, of Purcell died Friday, Dec. 6,2002 at Norman Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell with David Howell and Scott Furniss officating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.

He was born March 17, 1922, southwest of Purcell near the Payne community. He was the oldest of four children born to Jesse Marion Shobert and Cora Elizabeth Fox.

His family moved to a farm in the Rosedale area when he was a teenager. He attended the Rosedale schools and graduated with the class of 1940. Two years later he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served four years overseas during World War II. After the war was over he returned to Rosedale and continued farming. He later began working in the oil field as a pumper.

He married Thelma Ruth Davis McGowen of Rosedale in June 1968, and was a loving husband and father to her four sons for the past 34 years.

Mr Shobert retired from the oil field after 32 years,and the couple moved to Purcell in 1996. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing and gardening. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, and watching and feeding birds outside his patio door.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Thelma, of the home in Purcell; four sons, Sidney McGowen and his wife, Linda of Talala, Benny McGowen and his wife Janet, of Wayne, Joe McGowen and his wife,Carol, of Paoli, and Mickey McGowen and his wife, Brenda, of Byars; a brother Eugene Shobert of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Eileen Roberts of Oklahoma City, and Helen Leveridge of Wayne; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives and special neighbor friends Wyatt Hadley and Trey Pounds.

Bearers will be Sidney, Benny, Joe, Mickey, Tim, Terry, and Kirk McGowen and Randy Hadley. Memorials may be made to the leukemia fund of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

Thelma Ruth McGowen Shobert, age 92 of Purcell, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at the Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Purcell.

She was born on July 8, 1920, in Rosedale, Oklahoma. She was the 2nd child of four children born to Wiley Davis and Nellie (Mayfield) Davis. Thelma grew up and spent most of her life living in the Rosedale community. She graduated from Rosedale High School in 1937 as the class Salutatorian. In 1940 she married Frank McGowen and together they raised four sons. Thelma and Frank were married 23 years before he passed away in 1963. Five years later she married Kenneth Shobert on June 2, 1968. They continued living near Rosedale on a farm until 1996 when she and Kenneth moved to Purcell.

Thelma grew up learning to work hard as a young girl and continued that same work ethic throughout her life. She had various jobs over the years but mainly worked as a homemaker. Thelma loved staying busy and enjoyed quilting and crocheting for her grandchildren. She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Wayne Church of Christ for many years. After moving to Purcell, she later became a member of the 9th and Pierce Church of Christ. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by: Parents: Wiley and Nellie Davis. Two husbands: Frank McGowen on March 14, 1963, Kenneth Shobert on Dec. 6, 2002. Sister: Opal Dickinson on Jan. 13, 1999. Brother: B. C. Davis on Sept. 28, 2001. Infant brother: Wiley Ray Davis Jan. 9, 1929.

She is survived by: Four sons and their wives, Sidney and Linda McGowen of Talala, OK, Benny and Janet McGowen of Wayne, Joe and Carol McGowen of Paoli, Mickey and Brenda McGowen of Byars. Eight grandchildren and their families: Debbie and Fred Gomez of San Antonio, TX, Connie Jo and Wesley Cox of Shawnee, OK, Sheila and Roger Bell of Oologah, OK, Tim McGowen of Blanchard, OK, Terry and Stacy McGowen of Paoli, OK., Carrie Lin and Travis King of Wayne, OK, Kirk and Kristy McGowen of Wayne, OK, Shannon McGowen and fiancé Jason Ratchford of Wynnewood, OK. 15 great grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 28, 2012, at the 9th & Pierce Church of Christ in Purcell. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Arrangements by Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
