Gene Shobert age 66 of Maysville, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016 after a brief illness. Gene was born on August 31, 1949 at home in Maysville. He was the 8th child of nine children born to Jessie Marion Shobert and Dorothy Luerine (Croslin) Shobert. Gene grew up a farm boy and learned how to work hard when he was young. He and his siblings got their hard work ethic from their parents working in the cotton and broomcorn fields. He attended school in Wayne, graduating with the class of 1969. While in high school he played football. After high school Gene married and started a lifelong career of hard work. Some of his first jobs were working for Precision Muffler in Norman, Edmond Hart Construction, Bo Cail Construction and Sam Bayless. At the age of 30, he started working for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation McClain Co. and was still employed there at the time of his death. Gene loved being in the outdoors and working with his hands. Not only did he work full time for ODOT, he also farmed and ranched full time. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his later years he focused on Noodling and Hog Hunting. Because Gene did not have any children of his own, he cherished his nieces and nephews as his own. He loved his family and some of his most memorable times in his life were spending time with his family at family get-togethers.
