Jim Rowland, age 87 of Purcell, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020. James Loyd Rowland was born October 6, 1932 in Snyder, Texas, the youngest of 3 children born to Ervin James Rowland and Clare (Garrett) Rowland. Jim spent his early years in Texas where he attended school. Like many at that time, he left school early to work and help his family anyway he could. Jim answered the call to service and joined the United States Army. He was a true Patriot and wore the Army Green for more than 40 years. After his service, Jim began working for the United States Postal Service. During his time there, he served in many capacities including fleet maintenance and training, before retiring in management. Jim later married Carolyn (Odom) Gamble and they made their home in Purcell. A very private man, Jim spent everyday doing something. He stayed active and busy and worked hard. At one time, he taught auto mechanics for Southwest Automotive and a CDL Driving course at Mid America VO-Tech. He was a wonderful husband to Carolyn; a proud father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed!
