Phyllis Marie Pope died November 11, 2022, in Purcell, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years 7 months 29 days. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, Friday, November 18, 2022, at Wadley’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Phyllis was born March 13, 1940, in Kansas City, Kansas to Kermit Arthur and Florence Ruth (Kepler) Burroughs. She was raised in Emporia, Kansas, graduating in 1958. Phyllis continued her education in Kansas City, Kansas becoming an X-ray technician in 1960. On October 3, 1964, she married Delbert Gene Pope in Kansas City. In 1973, they made their home in Purcell. Phyllis worked for the Purcell Municipal Hospital for more than 30 years, retiring as the X-ray department manager. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, reading, scrapbooking, and collecting antiques. Phyllis loved watching birds out her window, going to garage sales and antique shops, spending time with her family, and spoiling her dogs, Missy, Scooter and Bella.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Florence Burroughs; her husband of 45 years, Delbert Pope; her sister, Mary Bodenheimer; and her brothers, Fred Burroughs, John Burroughs, and Gary Burroughs.
Survivors include her son, Kevin Pope and wife, Renee of Norman; her stepsons, Ronnie Pope of Escondido, California, Gary Pope and wife, Karen of Spring, Texas, Rex Pope of Wichita, Kansas; her 8 grandchildren; her 11 great grandchildren; her brother, Bob Burroughs; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Delbert Gene Pope died on October 27, 2009 at his home in Purcell, Oklahoma at the age of 73 years, 1 month, 11 days.
Delbert was born September 16, 1936, in Thackerville, Oklahoma to Clayton Pope, who died when Delbert was only 6 months old, and Inez Brush Pope Wigley. He was raised in Thackerville until moving to Purcell in 1946. October 3, 1964, Delbert and Phyllis were united in marriage in Kansas City, Kansas. In 1973, they made their home in Purcell. Delbert made a lifelong career out of working on cars, whether it be turning a wrench or fixing a dent. He enjoyed working with his hands, serving his community with his rescue vehicle, antique cars, making neon signs, country music, stock car racing and his family. He brought a smile to everyone who knew him and ensured his tome on Earth to be generous, fulfilling and inspiring.
Delbert is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jo Carr and a nephew, Elmer Carr.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis, of the home; sons, Ronnie Pope and wife, Cari of Virginia; Gary Pope and wife, Karen of Houston, Texas; Rex Pope of Kansas City, Kansas and Kevin Pope and wife, Renee of Moore; grandchildren, Heather, Jessica, Rex II, Erica, Josh, Emilee and Mandy; Great grand-daughter, Addison and a great grandson on the way; Aunts Dessie Stricklan of Marietta, Lorene Mitchusson of Thackerville, Zelma Dowdy, Ada Mae Grant, Evelyn Pyle and many other relatives and friends.
