Ocus L. Pope, age 97 of Purcell, passed away Monday August 5, 2013. O. L. was born July 27, 1916 in Mt. Ida, AR, the youngest of 6 children born to George Washington Pope and Ada Catherine (Helton) Pope. He was raised primarily in Wayne and attended Blanton View Schools. O. L. served his country proudly in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. O. L. married his best friend and true love, a young lady from Purcell named Pauline West, on February 28, 1942 in Las Vegas, NV. Together they raised 5 children; sons, Gary and Don and daughters, Dess, Bess and Karon. O. L. was a hard worker and a good provider for his family. For years, he worked as an auto mechanic and later in insurance sales. O. L. loved tending to his flower gardens and never missed an opportunity to go fishing. He was a wonderful example of a husband and father, a grandfather, brother and a good friend. He was a longtime and faithful member of the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by: His wife, Pauline Pope in July of 2009; His daughter, Dess Morris; His parents, G. W. and Ada Pope; 2 brothers, Shelby and Ila Pope and 3 sisters, Davie Meeks, Veda Sanders and Ninnie Sullivan.

O.L. leaves behind: 2 sons, Gary Pope and wife Maria of Purcell and Don Pope and wife Teresa of Norman; 2 daughters, Bess Howard and husband Ray of Glen Rose, TX and Karon Pope of Midwest City, OK; 8 Grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter And a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Thursday August 8, 2013, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
