Mike Pollok, age 61 of Purcell, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021. Born December 17, 1959 in Tulsa, OK, Michael Anthony Pollok was the 5th of 6 children born to Hubert and Mary Pollok. He was raised in Tulsa and attended school there, graduating from Tulsa Edison High School with the Class of 1978. Mike then attended Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton on a baseball scholarship, before completing his education at the University of Oklahoma. He pursued his interest in Geology and earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Petroleum Geology. While looking for bargains at a garage sale, he met his bride, Teresa Vinyard. On June 11, 1988 they married in Tulsa and made their home in Norman. By 1991, they settled in Purcell w here they raised three daughters, Brandi, Anna and Mary. Mike dedicated his life to his work, managing both MAP Exploration and Pollok Energy. Albeit, cliché, Mike was passionate about his work and involvement in the oil and gas industry. He believed in service to his community and served in numerous capacities for SIPES, the AAPG, the OU Alumni Advisory Council and the Purcell City Council. He was a long-time member of Ducks Unlimited and a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell.

A lover of all thing’s “nature”, Mike spent much of his time in the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking trails, biking endeavors, duck hunting and making much of the simpler things in life “fun”. A fierce competitor, a game of rock paper scissors, spoons, and even just picking up sticks in the yard had a formal bracket with a proclaimed winner for all kids, grandkids and friends. In 2011, Mike and Teresa packed up their family, grandkids and close friends and traveled to their beloved vacation spot in Fairplay, Colorado to tackle hiking Mt. Elbert, a 14,000ft. mountain peak. Together, Mike and his children reached the summit. A moment that was no doubt, one of his most proud. Each June, Mike participated in Oklahoma Free Wheel to bicycle across the state —always happy to be joined by whichever children, grandchildren, or friends were available—and most often, with his father, Hubie and brother Steve. Perhaps one of Mike’s most trademarked attributes was that he was an eager learner and an avid teacher. A reader of any newspaper and the Wall Street Journal, Mike was always trying to learn. Something he instilled in his children and grandchildren. Those that knew and loved him will miss his hard teasing, a bowl of ice cream shared on the roof, his limitless taste in music and big belly laugh.

He was preceded in death by: his mother, Mary Pollok and infant sister, Mary.

Mike is survived by: his life partner, Teresa Pollok; Daughters, Brandi Pollok Steiner and husband Paul of Purcell, Anna Pollok Dean and husband John of Lexington and Mary Pollok of Tulsa; as well as foster son Michael Hazer, of Hawaii. Father, Hubert Pollok; Brother, Stephen Pollok and wife Sharon; sisters, Vicky Parker and husband Tom, Julie Rethmeyer and husband Andrew and Gloria Pollok, all of Tulsa; 4 grandchildren, Wyatt, Waylon and Vivian Steiner and Jack Dean as well as a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. Special mention must be made of his friendship with Lee Martin of Tulsa. This relationship spanned 50 years with many adventures and misadventures along the away.

A Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 P.M., Tuesday evening at Little’s Chapel. Masks are encouraged for those planning to attend.

Graveside Services are scheduled for 12:30 P.M. Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Send online condolences @ www.wilsonlittle.com.
