Farrel Oswalt, age 89, of Lexington passed away on September 12, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Farrel Jean Ford was born on January 13, 1934 in Wanette, Oklahoma, the 2nd of 3 children born to Lee Albert “Jake” Ford and Lois C. (Ray) Ford.
Farrel started school in Wayne, transferring later to Purcell where she graduated with the Dragon Class of 1952.
In July of that same year, she married her high school sweetheart and life partner, John Carl Oswalt. In their early years, Carl and Farrel moved from town to town following the oil field. They moved nearly thirty-two times, before eventually settling down to make their home in Purcell. Together they raised their two beautiful children, Pam and Johnny. Becoming a mother was one of her greatest accomplishments in life! Farrel considered herself blessed to be able to stay home and care for her family. There was always a home cooked meal on the table, and more than enough food to eat. She was famously known for her fried potatoes and red beans! She also enjoyed making pickles and canning vegetables from her garden.
Farrel was also a woman of great faith. Her love and faithful devotion led others to Christ- including her husband, Carl. She was instrumental in his walk with the Lord, and together they attended both Sunray Baptist Church and Union Hill Baptist Church. Farrel was kind-hearted and had strong morals.
More than anything, Farrel was a family woman. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Cooking and being in the kitchen with her grandchildren brought her great joy. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and a true friend. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Carl Oswalt; her parents, Jake and Lois Ford; sister, Mary Ann McCall and baby infant sister.
Farrel is survived by: her daughter, Pam Coym (Mike) of Cleburne, Texas; son, Johnny Oswalt (Geneva) of Purcell; brother-in-law, Doyle McCall of Fairview; 4 grandchildren, Dustin Oswalt, Kelly Smith, Brett Coym (Amanda), and Stacia Rodgers (Landon); 6 great-grandchildren, Cooper, Colby, Delaney, Everly, Reydon, Kenleigh and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 15, 2023 at Little’s Chapel. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. www.wilsonlittle.com
