Bill Newman, age 73 of Purcell, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017.
William Jesse Newman was born April 13, 1944 in Purcell, OK, the 4th of 6 children born to Earl Redford Newman and Lou Eva (Rankin) Newman. He was raised in Purcell and attended Purcell schools, graduating in 1962. Bill was a proud patriot, a member of the United States Army and he served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. After the war, he returned home to Purcell where he again worked for Sparlin Pontiac Buick GMC. On November 30, 1984, Bill married his best friend and the absolute love of his life, Sam Brown. Bill served Purcell and the surrounding communities for nearly 30 years at Sparlin’s dealership, both as mechanic and service manager, before opening his own place, “Bill’s Automotive” in Lexington. He was well respected, very knowledgeable in a variety of subjects, and widely considered an “honest” man. Bill was really a jack of all trades and he greatly enjoyed just tinkering on stuff. He was an avid fisherman, although by his own account, not a busy one. He was a wonderful husband and father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a true friend. He will be dearly missed!
