Deloris Mitchell, age 88 of Purcell, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020. Deloris Adelia Cardinal was born October 9, 1931 in Purcell, OK, the oldest of 3 children born to Leo and Jewel Cardinal. Like many in that time, the Cardinal family moved to California following work. Deloris was primarily raised there, graduating High School in Santa Paula in 1949. Later that same year, on November 29th, Deloris married her childhood sweetheart, VD Mitchell. VD was a highly decorated Marine, who served tours all over the world. When in the States, he called Camp Pendleton home, and always considered himself a West Coast Military man. For a time, they lived in Cardiff and Manteca where they raised their son, David. Deloris worked as a librarian for many years. She served at Golden West School District in California and at Purcell Middle School for a time, and also for Pioneer Library system. Her greatest joy however was being a homemaker. She cherished her family and was never happier than when she became a grandma. She had a servant’s heart, and volunteered many years for the Red Cross and Women’s Circle. She loved arranging flowers, and could make anything with her hands. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed knitting and crocheting, embroidery and working crossword puzzles. She was a woman of great faith and a member of the First Christian Church in Purcell. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by:
Her husband, VD Mitchell and
