Mary “Jo” McGee, age 76 of Purcell, passed away Monday, October 20, 2014. Mary Josephine Foster was born April 14, 1938 in Albany, NY, the baby of 3 daughters born to James Foster and Barbara (Medlock) Foster. She was raised primarily in Hawthorne, CA, and attended school there, graduating in 1956. It was here that she met the love of her life; a young service man named James Lucian McGee. They were married on January 12, 1958. They settled in Purcell shortly after where together they raised 10 children: sons, David, Danny, John, Jim, Bill and Charles and daughters, Barbara, Judy, Brenda and Stephanie. Jo spent her days as a stay at home wife and mother, caring and providing for her family. This time brought her a great amount of joy. She was an avid reader and passionately encouraged her children and grandchildren to pick up reading. Jo’s eyes began to fail her eventually leaving her legally blind. Though discouraged at times, this only fueled her passion to inspire others to pick up a book. Jo was a wonderful wife and mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: Her husband, James McGee in 2011; Her daughter, Stephanie Harmoning and Her parents, James and Barbara Foster.
