Roman Earl “Skip” Jones Jr. age 54 of Velma, OK passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Integris SW Medical Center in OKC.
He was born on May 25, 1961 in Oklahoma City, the 3rd of four children. His parents were Roman Earl Jones Sr. and Evelyn Yvonne (Hunt) Jones. Skip grew up in Velma and graduated from Velma-Alma High School with the class of 1979. While in high school he played baseball and learned how to play the drums. He became an excellent drummer and in his spare time he played in several different bands and at Church. After high school, Skip started working in the oil field which later became his life long career. He first started working for Guiberson Company, then Basic Energy and lastly was employed with Thomas Acid and Tool Services as a Oil Well Completion Specialist. Skip had many hobbies including, golfing, fishing, watching movies, but mostly listening music and playing his drums. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and joke telling, and how he loved to talk on his phone, keeping in touch with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by: Grandparents, Melvin and Jannie Hunt; Father, Roman Earl Jones Sr. Step-father, Cotton Stiles; Two step-sons, Kelly Groves and Casey Groves; Nephew, Chris Bradford;
He is survived by: Mother, Yvonne Stiles of Wayne, Wife, Kristy Jones of Velma, Children, Cherie Frias of Yukon, Roman Eric Jones of Yukon, Step-children, Justin Jones of Dixon, Kyle, Cody and Kevan Groves of Kansas, Cady and Kelsy Groves also of Kansas; Brother, Eldon Stiles and wife Tandy of Duncan, Sisters, Ramona Bradford of Velma, Denise Auld and husband Rodney of Wayne, Six grandchildren, Taylor, Cooper, Evan, Hannah, Ariannah and Cruz. Three aunts, Bonnie Jones of OKC, Faye Johns and husband Joe of Wayne, Kaye Hilburn and husband Jim of Wayne, One uncle, Larry Stiles and wife Margaret, Velma, OK, The mother of his children, Michelle Newman of Yukon, Also several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 2:00P.M. Friday, at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Send online condolences @wilsonlittle.com
