Ruby Faye Hunt, age 92 of Aurora, Colorado, formerly of Purcell, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

Ruby Faye Shuttlesworth was born October 23, 1926, in Troup, TX, the oldest of 4 children born to James Coleman Shuttlesworth and Ovie Lee (Simmons) Shuttlesworth. Ruby was raised in Troup, Texas and attended school in Salem and Troup graduating in 1945. She married her best friend and life partner, Ronald Earl Hunt, on August 24, 1947, in Dallas, TX. Together they raised two children, son Ron, and daughter, Debbie. Faye graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor’s of Education Degree and later completed her Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma. Faye taught mainly at the elementary level. She dedicated herself to her students, with an unwavering commitment to their education and well-being. She taught in Texas early on before settling in Purcell in 1960. Faye worked at the Purcell Public Library before returning to teaching. She taught one year at Rosedale. After that, she taught at Hawthorne, and later Purcell Elementary School, where Faye remained active in education advocacy and was a member of the OEA. Throughout the years, former students have expressed fond memories of Faye and great love and appreciation for her. Faye was a woman of great faith and a longtime and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Purcell, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union. Faye loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and spend time with her family and friends. In 2003, Faye moved to Garden City, Kansas, and lived across the street from her daughter, Debbie, and son-in-law, Paul. She lived with Paul and Debbie when they moved to Aurora, CO in 2011. Her son called her daily and visited often. Faye was a sweet, kind, beautiful woman devoted to and generous with her family and many friends. She made incredible sacrifices for her family. She was a cherished wife, an extraordinary mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

She was preceded in death by:

    Her husband, Ronald Earl Hunt;

    Parents, James, and Ovie Shuttlesworth;

    Sister,  Evelyn Russell, and;

    brothers, Earl and Billy Keith Shuttlesworth.

Faye is survived by:

    Her son, Ron Hunt, of Park City, UT;

    Daughter, Debbie Karkiainen, and husband, Paul, of Aurora, CO;

    Special, Beloved Niece, whom she considered part of the immediate family, Lois Thomas, and husband, Bobby, of Kilgore, TX;

    Grandson by marriage, Dave Karkiainen, and his wife, Christin;

    Great granddaughter by marriage, Kayli Karkiainen, and a host of other family and friends.       
 

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at Wilson-Little Funeral Home.
