Marie B. Hopper, age 91 of Purcell, passed away Saturday, April 22nd, 2017. Marie was born January 29th, 1926 to Thomas Berry and Rittie Exer (Page) Yates, the youngest of 7 children. She was raised in Purcell and attended Purcell Schools. Marie married Alvie Swafford in June of 1943, and to this union, two children; son Bill and daughter, Aline were born. Marie worked tirelessly as a homemaker, caring and providing for her family. She later married Jimmie Lee Hopper; they were married nearly 50 years. He brought two daughters to this union, Gloria and Mary. Marie was very gifted with her hands, she crocheted, quilted and even made some of her own clothes. Marie was an excellent cook and was known especially for her homemade bread. She canned many vegetables from the garden Jimmie grew. Marie stayed active doing many arts and crafts and spent countless hours in the ceramic shop Jimmie built. Marie was a woman of great faith and a longtime member of the Heartland Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Purcell. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and leaves a great legacy and a lifetime of memories for her family. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Jimmie Hopper; Parents, Thomas and Rittie Yates; 2 sisters, Louella Huddleston and Virginia Marcotte; 4 brothers, Earnest, Marion, Roy and TC Yates and Daughter-in-law, Linda Swafford.
Marie leaves behind: Her son, Bill Swafford of Purcell; Daughters, Aline Walker and husband Duane of Purcell; Gloria Lurry and husband Oliver of Seminole; Mary Hendrix and husband Orville of Washington; 10 grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren and A host of other family and friends.
Celebration of Life Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Tuesday,
April 25, 2017, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will
follow at the Hillside Cemetery.
